On August 20th, 2023, Farnham Leisure Centre transformed into a magical Woodland, setting the stage for a Little Footy Stars’ Gruffalo-themed day. This enchanting event was a testament to the power of creativity and play, bringing families together for a day of unforgettable memories and skill-building adventures.

One of the highlights of the day was the “Creeping Up to the Gruffalo” session, a unique game created to enhance children’s ball control, agility, and decision-making skills in an engaging and imaginative manner. Under the watchful eyes of their coaches (the Gruffalos), children embarked on a journey of skill development wrapped in a delightful Gruffalo-inspired storyline.

The rules of this captivating game were as follows: children were armed with their trusty footballs and invited to enter the deep, dark wood. Their mission? To creep up quietly towards the Gruffalo (their coach) while moving their footballs. The tricky part? They had to freeze instantly when the Gruffalo turned around, avoiding detection by the famous character.

The suspense matched that of a World Cup penalty shootout, as these young adventurers tiptoed through the imaginary forest, a world brought to life by the beloved character from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s iconic book. Every step was a lesson in balance and agility, as children mastered their ability to move silently and slowly, a crucial aspect of ball control.

Farnham Leisure Centre, home of Little Footy Stars, situated at Dogflud Way, Farnham GU9 7UD, provided the perfect setting for this magical adventure.
